Ephesians 1:15-23: "What A Church Needs", Sermon Series: This Is Us

This week, we continue in our series through Ephesians by considering Ephesians 1:15-23. After rousing believers to remember and celebrate the great salvation they have through the Triune God, Paul now turns his attention to encouraging and praying for them. This prayer is reflective of the entire tone that the apostle is setting for the reader in the letter, modeling a Spirit-led dependence on the resources that God provides in order to endure the Christian life. The section begins with Paul encouraging the Ephesians regarding their faith in Jesus and their love toward all the saints and then continues with him sharing a heartfelt and inspiring prayer. From these verses it is my aim to renew our call to recommit ourselves to Christ and one another by seeing what our church – any church! – needs to faithfully carry out its mission: spiritual encouragement, spiritual insight, and spiritual power.
